Sierra de la Plata

The sector remains modest in size compared to San Bartolo: few routes, all bolted with glue-in anchors. The rock is a sandstone that suffers in places: saline corrosion works on the anchors, and the quality of the stone is uneven from one rope party to the next. The available topos describe a site suited to self-sufficient climbers, able to assess the state of the fixed gear themselves. No point coming here to rack up volume: you come for the setting, not the quantity.

The spot's real asset is its location. The wall drops onto the bay of Zahara, with a plunging view over the strait, and the climate lets you climb almost all year round. As the whole sierra belongs to the Parque Natural del Estrecho, the same rules as San Bartolo apply: no bivouac, respect for any nesting orders, no wild bolting. A half-day of climbing can be extended by a walk to the Faro Camarinal or a descent to the Alemanes beach.
